High Rep Training
High Rep Training is becoming more used by bodybuilders , fitnss models , and used by beginners. For years there has been controversity on "Heavy weight -low reps between 6-8 verse light weight -high reps between 15-20 reps ". Both methods work for adding mass and toning, of course it has been stated that low reps with heavy weight build muscle tissue better and faster. Now let's talk: without going into deep about the process of how muscles work using slow twitch and fast twitch fibers. The body most of the time use one or the other, but what if I explain how high reps made me put on size along with definition Without using cardio. So before I get into this discussion - cardio is movement that takes the heart beat out of normal range by increasing the heart rate. "We will come back to that in a little bit". High rep training works so well because it forces blood into the capillaries, causing a great muscle pump. There is not enough stress to add muscle from just using a light weight with high reps, so there are three ways this works -
1. Picking a light weight that you can push out 20reps/ 5 sets , will cause a great muscle pump ,which you would finish off with 2 sets of heavy weight 6-8 reps , in return this will force oxygen rich blood in your muscles to cause growth.
2. Picking a weight thats mild/heavy that you can push out 20reps / 5 sets, will cause muscle growth because of the resistance Being used.
3. My favorite of all- heavy weight / high reps will most definitely add muscle, toning and shape your body into what you have been aiming for. With heavy weight the same concept is being used, 20reps/ 5 sets. Example : If you normally bench press 225lbs, 6/8 reps for 3 sets change the weight to about 135lbs starting off while doing 20reps /5 sets. Talk about a muscle pump!!!! You will get a super pump, and at the same time build a new and better body.
Going back to the middle of my article, I spoke on cardio. When using high reps, there is really no need for cardio because this will most definitely increase your heart rate causing you to burn more calories. High rep training is something that I use on myself along with how I train my clients.
